What power does the box require ?
The box accepts a DC power input of between 9v and 30v DC. The unit is protected against reverse polarity wiring. We recommend only a regulated DC supply is used.

What do the LEDs show ?
The LEDs show (from left to Right) DC Power (Red), RS232 Data Received (Orange), and DMX Output Enabled (Green).
The RS232 led will flash briefly on data reception on transmission. The DMX LED will illuminate to show DMX data is being transmitted. It is actually blinking at the Transmitted DMX rate which is around 20Hz which will look like its always on – but if you move your head while looking past the unit you will see the high frequency flickering as a trail of LED flashes.

What are the Serial port specifications ?
The serial port is a 3 wire connection with only pins 2, 3 and 5 used. The unit uses 9600 baud and requires all commands to have a CR line delimiter. Earlier versions required a CR-LF delimiter, but this requirement has been removed in later firmware. If you do send CR/LF it will not cause any issues, we still offer it for legacy support.

Can I update the unit to a newer version ?
Te unit has a bootloader which allows the firmware to be updated using a small PC application. As new features are added or pesky bugs are squashed there may be new firmware versions made available. Signup for Firmware Update notifications here to make sure you always have the latest version.

Do you publish the serial protocol ?
Sure Do. You can either get it from the Downloads Tab above or click here – RS232 DMX box 2G protocol 0714
